The Government of Canada has officially opened applications for the Canadian Government Scholarships 2026. These fully funded opportunities allow international students to study and conduct research at Canadian universities and colleges.
These scholarships are administered through Global Affairs Canada and EduCanada. Together, these organizations aim to strengthen international partnerships and, more importantly, develop human capital through educational exchange.
What Do These Scholarships Cover?
Importantly, these scholarships cover all essential expenses. In other words, selected students receive comprehensive financial support throughout their stay in Canada.
Specifically, the funding includes:

Tuition (waived at the Canadian host institution; students remain enrolled and pay tuition at home)

Additionally, Canadian host institutions receive CAD $500 per scholarship to cover administrative costs. As a result, both students and institutions benefit from this program.

Program Duration and Structure
Unlike full-degree scholarships, these programs are designed for short-term study or research exchanges, typically ranging from 4 to 6 months.
During this period, students remain enrolled at their home institutions. Meanwhile, they earn academic credits in Canada. Therefore, participants gain international exposure without interrupting their primary degree programs.
Main Scholarship Programs for 2026
There are three major programs available for the 2026–2027 academic year.
1. Study in Canada Scholarships 2026
This program targets students from select countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Eligible countries include:
Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan, Türkiye, Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Primarily, this scholarship supports short-term study or research exchanges at Canadian post-secondary institutions. Furthermore, it strengthens academic linkages between Canada and these regions.
Funding Details:

CAD $10,200 for 4-month undergraduate or graduate exchanges
-
CAD $14,000 for 5–6 month graduate research programs
Consequently, students receive both academic and financial support while expanding their global networks.
2. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) 2026
The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) is specifically designed for students from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Eligible countries include:
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and other countries in the region.
Established in 2009, ELAP focuses on developing human capital. In addition, it nurtures future leaders and strengthens institutional partnerships between Canada and the Americas.
Funding Details:

CAD $8,200 for 4-month college, undergraduate, or graduate programs

CAD $11,100 for 5–6 month graduate research projects
Therefore, participants not only gain international academic experience but also develop leadership and collaboration skills.
3. SEED-2 Scholarships 2026
The Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development Phase 2 (SEED-2) program targets students from ASEAN member states, Pacific Island countries, and Mongolia.
Eligible ASEAN countries include:
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Additionally, eligible Pacific Island countries include:
Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, as well as Mongolia.
Unlike the other programs, SEED-2 places strong emphasis on research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, projects should address poverty reduction and sustainable development.

CAD $10,200 for 4-month graduate research projects

CAD $12,700 for 5–6 month research periods
As a result, students are expected to demonstrate how their research can positively impact their home regions.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Must be a citizen of an eligible country

Must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in their home country
-
Must not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

Must not hold another Canadian government or federal grant

Must submit all required documentation

For graduate research applicants, an invitation letter from a Canadian supervisor
