The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) is specifically designed for students from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Eligible countries include:
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and other countries in the region.

Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

Additionally, eligible Pacific Island countries include:
Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, as well as Mongolia.

Unlike the other programs, SEED-2 places strong emphasis on research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, projects should address poverty reduction and sustainable development.

• CAD $10,200 for 4-month graduate research projects

• CAD $12,700 for 5–6 month research periods

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a citizen of an eligible country

• Must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in their home country

• Must not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

• Must not hold another Canadian government or federal grant

• Must submit all required documentation
